Note! When buying your PostNord shipments through Shipmondo, the price is calculated based on the physical weight of your parcel. The purpose of this article is to explain the concept of volumetric weight (also known as dimensional weight) at PostNord, which PostNord still uses for price calculation for their own customers.
Volumetric weight (dimensional weight) describes how much space a specific parcel is taking up.
It is calculated as follows:
volumetric weight = length x height x width (all in meters) x Z.
Z is a determinant that the carrier has set.
At PostNord this determinant is Z = 280.
PostNord invoicing goes after whichever value is the highest, between the physical and the volumetric weight of the shipment.
Example:
Physical weight | Volumetric weight |
0,9 kg | 0,2 x 0,3 x 0,4 x 280 = 6,72 kg |
Being higher than the physical weight, in this case it is the volumetric weight of 6,72 kg that would be the basis for the pricing of the shipment.
