Note: Volumetric weight calculation only applies to GLS export parcels (Parcels from Denmark to abroad). Domestic parcels with GLS (parcels within Denmark) are charged based on physical weight.
When sending parcels with GLS abroad, please note that export shipments may be charged based on the shipment’s volumetric weight.
Volumetric weight (dimensional weight) describes how much space a specific parcel takes up.
Whenever dimensional weight of the parcel is higher than the physical weight, you will be charged based on the dimensional weight.
The dimensional weight is calculated as follows:
Dimensional weight = length x width x height (all in m) x Z
Z is a determinant that the carrier sets and at GLS this determinant is Z = 200.
GLS' invoicing is based on whichever value is the highest between the physical and the volumetric weight of the parcel.
Example:
Physical weight | Volumetric weight |
3 kg | 0,20 x 0,30 x 0,40 x 200 = 4,8 kg |
The volumetric weight is 4,8 kg, which is higher than the actual weight. In this case, the volumetric weight is higher than the physical weight and you will be charged according to the volumetric weight.
