Set up custom domain for personal messages in Shipmondo

Get an even more professional and recognizable communication with your customers.

Updated this week

This feature requires Shipmondo Pro. See the list of features.

With the ability to create your own domain for personal messages, you get an even more professional and recognizable communication with your customers.

Instead of using Shipmondo's name as a domain, you can use your own domain and thereby strengthen your brand, build trust and give customers a more coherent experience when you communicate with them.

You can choose to create two types of domains: one for sending personal emails and one for use in Shipmondo's return portal. This way, you get full control over both customer communication and your return handling without compromising your own branding.

In this guide, we will go through how to create the domain for your personal messages.

How to set up your own domain for personal messages

Set up DNS records

Log in to your Shipmondo account and go to Settings > Domains.

Click the Plus button (+) in the bottom right to create a new domain. In the type, select “Personal message”, and under domain name, enter the desired domain.

Note! It must be a subdomain. For example, if your domain is mycompany.com, a domain could be mail.mycompany.com. The email will then be sent from: name@mail.mycompany.com. It is important that you own the domain, otherwise it will not work.

Then click “Create”.

When the domain is created, the system will generate a number of DNS validation records.

These records will be used for the following:

  • Prove that you own the domain

  • Set up DKIM

  • Set up DMARC

  • Set up SPF

You must now log in to your DNS provider and set up the relevant records.

In the above example, you would create:

Type: CNAME

Name: si66ij4d5j7c2qbrfzlc3hhbkxoxgi2d._domainkey.mail.mycompany.com

Value:

Type: CNAME

Name: gz3tvz3tudhtncr2nwhbfmil5bhik6fm._domainkey.mail.mycompany.com

Value:

Type: CNAME

Name: xdsadxabvypqs2m6kvcb75l7tm7mw2n4._domainkey.mail.mycompany.com

Value:

Type: MX

Name: mail.mail.mycompany.com

Value:

Type: TXT

Name: mail.mail.mycompany.com

Value: (note the quotation marks at the beginning and end)

Type: TXT

Name: _dmarc.mail.mycompany.com

Value: (note the quotation marks at the start and end)

Note! It is also possible to download the information to a CSV file, which you can send to your DNS provider, an internal developer or an external web agency that can help. The file contains all the information they need.

Our system continuously monitors whether the necessary records are ready. The DNS change itself can take up to 24 hours to take effect.

When the domain is validated, the color of the status bar changes to green.

Configure personal message to use the domain

If you have not already set up personal messages, you can follow the guide here.

Click on the personal message that should use the desired domain.

Note! If you have multiple personal messages set up, you must change the domain on all messages.

For Sender domain, it will default to our Shipmondo-emails.com domain.

Therefore, expand the dropdown list to see the available domains.

Select the desired domain and click “Save”.
