Who do the product identifier requirements apply to?
The EU has introduced new product identification requirements for distance sales (B2C) of goods shipped from a country outside the EU to a private customer in the EU.
For example, this could be a Norwegian online store selling and shipping goods to a private customer in Denmark, Sweden or another EU country.
The requirements aren't limited to shipments below EUR 150. Product identifiers must be provided for applicable B2C shipments regardless of the shipment value.
From 1 November 2026, providing product identifiers will be mandatory for applicable B2C shipments. You can already provide the required product identifiers for individual goods in Shipmondo.

What are product identifiers?
These identifiers enable customs authorities to identify and trace the specific products being imported into the EU.
Three types of product identifiers are used:
Product identifier | What to provide? | Example |
Merchant Product ID (M-PID) | Product ID assigned by the seller, online store or marketplace | SKU or your own product number |
Non-Standard Manufacturer Product ID (NS-PID) | The manufacturer's or supplier's own product ID that doesn't follow an international standard | Manufacturer's product number |
Standard Manufacturer Product ID (S-PID) | The manufacturer's standardised product ID | EAN, GTIN or ISBN |
How do you provide product identifiers in Shipmondo?
When creating a B2C shipment from a country outside the EU to a private recipient in the EU you can find the product identifier fields under Customs > Contents.
Here, you can provide M-PID, NS-PID and S-PID for the individual goods.
Note! UPS shipments only
When creating a B2C shipment from a country outside the EU to a private recipient in the EU, select the B2C service when booking the shipment.
Once B2C is selected, the product identifier fields become available under Customs > Contents.
B2C and Private receiver aren't the same. B2C indicates that the shipment relates to a sale from a business to a private individual, whereas Private receiver only indicates that the delivery address is a residential address.
What happens if the information is missing?
From 1 November 2026, the required product identifiers will be mandatory.
Missing or incorrect information may result in the customs declaration being rejected. This can delay customs clearance and may ultimately result in the shipment being returned.
It's therefore important to ensure that the required identifiers are available in your product data before 1 November 2026.
