If electronic exchange of customs documents is not supported, copies of pro forma invoices will be created. After you have created the shipment, you need to ensure that the copies are printed and placed in a plastic pocket that is attached to the outside of the parcel.
It is important that all customs documents be filled out correctly.
Pro tip: Use automatic completion of customs documents, and save time on filling out the customs declaration.
Parcel measurements
The dimensions below are valid for single-piece shipments only.
It is important that the weight and dimensions of the shipment are in compliance with the requirements of the carrier. If you send parcels that do not comply with the below requirements, it may incur a surcharge. UPS reserves the right to return the parcel with no refund of the freight charges.
Length + circ. | Max. length | Max. weight |
400 cm* | 274 cm | 70 kg |
* Please note that a surcharge will be applied for a Large package, as described in UPS surcharge overview.
UPS' invoicing is based on either physical or volumetric weight, depending on whichever value is the highest. See how to calculate volumetric weight for UPS parcels here.
Packaging requirements
The content must be packaged appropriately and be able to withstand road transport by tarpaulin-covered trucks.
It is the responsibility of the sender to ensure that a parcel is packaged in a way that ensures that the contents are adequately protected. Furthermore, the sender must ensure that the packaging of the shipment cannot cause damage to other parcels, UPS, or a third party.
You can read more about UPS’s guidelines for appropriate packaging of parcels here.
Preparation of shipment and dispatch
A shipping label must always be securely applied to the package.
When you ship packages with UPS, you have the option to either hand in the packages to a UPS Access Point or you can book pickups.
Hand-ins
If you wish to hand-in the packages yourself, you can find the nearest pick-up and drop-off points here.
Pick-ups
Depending on your location, there might be different cut-offs for scheduling a same day pickup. To ensure that the package can be picked up on the same day, make sure to place the pickup order before 1:00 PM.
Pick-up of your shipment is electronically booked from your Shipmondo account.
When your shipments are being picked up, it's important to make sure that the driver signs your End of Day list. You can easily print this list from your Shipmondo account. This serves as your evidence that the shipment has been transferred to the carrier and can be crucial in the event of a possible loss claim.
It is important that the shipment is ready for pick-up, when UPS arrives to collect the package.
Note! An additional pickup fee applies when collecting packages for shipments within the EU.
Prohibited items
UPS shipments are not permitted to include items such as fur coats, weapons, live animals, money, or transferable papers.
You can see a complete list of prohibited items on UPS’s website here.
It is the responsibility of the sender to ensure that the requirements, conditions and laws of each given receiver country are complied with.
Shipments can be subject to inspection, which may delay delivery. This may be required by customs authorities or representatives from other authorities.
Additional services and surcharges
When you book shipments with UPS, there are a number of additional service fees that may be imposed on your shipment. That is, for example, if your shipment does not meet the carrier's requirements or requires special handling by the carrier for other reasons.
Therefore it is important that you read and familiarize yourself with the different additional services.
