In Shipmondo there are three different picking solutions:

  • Pick with digital pick paths (paperless picking)

  • Pick with pick path lists

  • Pick with pick lists

If you don’t know the difference between the picking solutions, we recommend that you read our article that reviews the solutions, so that you can choose the solution that fits your needs.

In this guide, we review how to pick with digital pick paths.

How to create a digital pick path

In the order overview, select the orders for which you would like to start a pick path.

In the example below, we select eight orders.

Click Start pick path.

Note! If your primary button is called Create pick path list, you can change it to Start pick path under Settings > Pick.

Pro tip: Do you want to manage specific orders together; for example, orders that have the same delivery method or orders with the same item number? Then you can use order filtering.

You will now be presented with an on-screen pick path.

Note! In our example, we have used a tablet, but a computer or mobile phone can also be used.

On the pick path, you can see all items from all 8 orders together. The pick path will be sorted by item location (bin code), if this is noted on the item. If your items do not have bin codes, then the pick path will be sorted by SKU.

Explanation of the elements on the pick path

  1. Cancel picking (any picked items will not be registered).

  2. Finish picking.

  3. If the pick path contains only one order, then the order number will appear here. If the pick path consists of several orders, then the number of orders will be displayed instead.

  4. The number of items that have been picked out of the total number for the pick path.

  5. Bin code of the item in the warehouse (if this is noted on the item).

  6. Number of units to be picked.

  7. Item SKU / item number.

  8. Number of units that have been picked.

  9. Item name.

  10. Current item to be picked is shown to the right of the pick path. Once the item(s) have been picked, the next SKU / item number will be shown.

When using pick paths, you need to have picking boxes and possibly a picking trolley (see the pictures in the next section).

Pro tip: Add bin codes to your products in Shipmondo and work even faster and more efficiently. See how to do that here.

How to pick with a pick path

Step 1 - Create a pick path

Mark the orders to be picked and start a pick path (see instructions above).

If you pick, for example, 8 orders at a time, you need 8 boxes.

Be sure to number your picking boxes.

If you have a picking trolley, you can number the trolley shelves, instead of the picking boxes (see the example in the picture below).

Step 2 - Pick the items from the pick path

Pick the items according to the instructions on the pick path.

Pick the number next to Pick and place the item(s) in the picking box with the corresponding picking box number.

In the example above, 1 piece of item number 1RN03 - G55 (L) located on bin code A-01-02-05 must be picked at the warehouse, and the item must be placed in box number #4 on the picking trolley.

Confirm the pick by scanning the barcode on the item. Of course, you need to have assigned barcodes to the items previously; if this is not the case, you can instead click on the plus button (+) to update the number picked.

Then finish your pick by clicking Confirm Pick.

Repeat the above until all the items on the pick path have been picked.

The picked items will appear at the bottom of the list on the left side, so you can easily check your picks if you aren’t sure if you have picked correctly.

Pro tip: Use a scanner to scan your items to minimize picking errors (order check).

Watch a demo here:

Read more about order checks and the use of scanners here. You can also read more about how the handheld terminal can be used here.

Step 3 - Finish picking

Once the last item has been picked, you will be asked if you want to end the pick path.

If you select Yes, fulfillments will now be created on your orders, based on the picked items.

On the created shipping label, the box number will appear, so you easily can see which label belongs to which box/order.

Pro tip: You can decide what bulk action to take for your orders when you finish a pick. For example, you can configure the system to create fulfillments, book shipments, print shipping labels and withdraw money from your orders. You will find settings options under Completing picks, under your pick settings.

If you have not set automatic ordering of shipments at the end of picking, you will find the picked orders under the All tab on your order overview with the status "Packed".

You can then bulk-manage and complete your orders by selecting the orders and the desired bulk action in the dropdown by the arrow to the right of the Start pick path button.

If you want to complete your orders individually, you can read about how to create a fulfillment and shipment, as well as complete an order under step 3 in this guide.
